The crowdedness and ability to get a machine is SUPER dependent on time. From like 10-2 the RSF is basically a ghost town. Any time other than that except around opening and closing and you’ll have to wait on a waitlist for most cardio equipment and even wait in line to use the weight rooms.

I’ve waited upwards of 20 minutes to get in the waiting room just to wait in more lines to use the equipment. Kind of sucks when you’re trying to sneak in a workout in between classes.

Many students have expressed frustration at overcrowding in the RSF and university gyms in general.

After reaching out to the RSF director, we have begun working with a foot traffic measurement company called Density to help make it easier for students to know how full the gym is.

After a month of meetings with the ASUC Mobile App, the RSF, and Density, we have settled on a pilot program to launch by the end of the semester in the Memorial Stadium gym.

Sensors installed at the gym will track the number of people entering and exiting the Memorial Stadium gym, and the data will be easily visible on the ASUC mobile app. Expansions will include installations at the RSF entrance, as well as at the different rooms within the RSF. For example, if you only want to know how full the weight room is, having sensors at the entrance to that specific room would be more useful than simply having sensors at the entrance to the RSF.

In the future, we are hoping to expand this sensor system to the University Libraries as well, which should make finding midterm/finals week study spaces a lot easier.
