Pay per view is not a new thing – some organizations have tried it, some use it to live stream their events, but it is 1. Usually quite expensive and 2. It is only focuced on one event. United Strongmen® started it ́s own ppw channel. The first posted video is 2012 World ́s Strongest Man Experience as seen in Finnish tv.

Why we do this? We want to start offering more selection to see strength events via internet via our media channel. All our championships are filmed and that way anyone, anywhere in the world can enjoy it with reasonable prices as the price range of the programs will be 1-5 EUR per competition. In some cases the video will appear in a week from the competition and in some cases it might take a few months depending on tv-contracts.

Grenarna på Women’s World Championships (varje gren har en egen sponsor, därav namngivningen):

We had a few unfortunately injuries on the last minute, but as written in our rules – the spot goes to next athlete in the national qualification so these are the strongest women at the moment able to participate for the title of 2012 World Champion.

The ladies will have great feats of strength to battle – as we are talking about World Championships of strength – we have all areas included: overhead lift, speed, endurance, grip, pulling power, technique etc.

Part of the weights we are using are also 10-20% higher than we have seen in the previous international competitions for women as we are here to see, who is the strongest – not, who is the fittest. We do realize that even the muscles are strong for lifting, female body is build differently than males, so we have also remembered the safety factor as we do not use any odd objects what could make extra harm and all ”fighting events” are forgotten.

Naturally, as we are in Finland something weird has to be invented and this time it is the opening event for competition which is done in the heart of Hämeenlinna city center – the farmers walk for max distance is done in nice uphill/downhill track and the weather will be something around 0*C, so the ”warm-up” event is done in winter weather and the 6 more events on the following day are done inside of a sports hall with more steadier temperature.

Even the opening event is done with huge 102kg weights we are saving the backs of the athletes with high handles and the ground will be salted well to avoid any slipperiness to offer the venue as safe as possible.

In log lift we use the style what we call ”Gemma-lift” as 2011 Iceland´s strongest woman Gemma Magnusson had the style, where competitor can choose to lift reps with heavier or lighter log, but 1 rep with heavy beats all reps with light one.

On the side of World Championships we are witnessing Ironmind Grip Classic finals, GPA RAW-Powerlifting and first ever Strongman Fitness© Finnish nationals along with the band called ”Not So Perfect Strangers” playing Deep Purple, Rainbow etc. power music…cafeteria, bar, supplements, training gear, clothes etc.
